JULY BROWN BAG MEETINGS

ESTATE PLANNING and ADMINISTRATION

Wednesday, July 8, 12:00 - 1:30 p.m. at Wendel, Rosen, Black & Dean LLP, 1111 Broadway, 19th Floor, Oakland.

Many retirees will die leaving sizeable balances in their 401(k) accounts or rollover IRAs to their beneficiaries. These assets are among the few that, when left to beneficiaries, are subject to income tax. Drawing on an educational background that includes both a law degree from Harvard and a Ph.D. in physics from MIT, Barry Sacks has developed a technique that may eliminate some or all of the income tax stemming from these assets. Please join us as Mr. Sacks shares how he used the quantitative skills he gained as a physicist and experience as a tax lawyer to develop a patented strategy for optimizing the retirement income drawn from 401(k) accounts and rollover IRAs.

RSVP REQUIRED BY 10AM JULY 6. Email to admin@EBTEL.org with “July 8 Brown Bag RSVP” in the Subject line.

ELDER LAW, CONSERVATORSHIPS and GUARDIANSHIPS

Wednesday, July 15, 12:00 - 1:30 p.m. at Wendel, Rosen, Black & Dean LLP, 1111 Broadway, 19th Floor, Oakland.

Lisa Sitkin, Managing Attorney at Housing and Economic Rights Advocates (HERA), will provide an overview of HERA’s free legal services and will discuss in particular the legal and practical problems that arise within families and with mortgage servicers regarding mortgage debts, mortgage delinquencies and foreclosure when ownership of real property transfers in connection with the death of a borrower or co-borrower. Ms. Sitkin will review real-life examples from HERA’s practice and present strategies for preempting and addressing the problems often faced by successors-in-interest.

RSVP REQUIRED BY 10AM JULY 13. Email to admin@EBTEL.org with “July 15 Brown Bag RSVP” in the Subject line.

Please see the July Newsletter for an updated schedule of meetings.
